My Own Story
I chose the name Full Circle when I started this business to convey my holistic approach to gardening. After studying environmental policy and rural development I was well aware of the negative impacts of large scale agriculture. Yet I was also aware of methods used by traditional and small scale farmers around the world to grow food while allowing for greater biodiversity and without all of the chemicals employed by industrial agriculture.
When I acquired a plot in a local community garden I threw myself into growing vegetables and compulsively composting every scrap of food waste that I could get my hands on. After studying environmental issues from an academic perspective, it was a revelation to witness my little garden plot physically transform before me. Month after month as I added my food scraps to the compost pile and then added the compost to my garden plot I saw life come into the soil. I started to see worms and little crawling creatures in the soil. The soil became softer and easier to work. It even smelled better. I am still completely enamored with composting. The things organic matter can do for soil never cease to amaze me.
Within the greater context of supporting better agriculture and land use worldwide, I now zoom in and help people to nurture their little patches of land in the city and all of the flora and fauna that live upon it.
